Tracking MaxBounty Offers With Voluum

Voluum TRK MaxBounty Tracking Integration Case Study

MaxBounty is one of the biggest and oldest affiliate networks on the market. They work with all verticals and focus on keeping up with their name - providing maximal bounties for their members. Setting up tracking of their offers with Voluum is a painless process thanks to this guide.

Before You Start

Keep in mind that you need the following things:

  • An active Voluum account, and a little bit of knowledge of how to set up a campaign funnel. Completing the Getting Started guide is sufficient.

  • An active MaxBounty account.

  • A steady source of traffic.

Apart from the above, you do not need anything else. MaxBounty will supply you not only with offers, but with creatives as well.

I. Set up a Campaign in MaxBounty

In the first step you will have to find an offer, so you can track it with Voluum later. Then you will configure tracking parameters and postback settings. To do so, perform the following steps:

  1. In MaxBounty, locate an offer that interests you by:

    • Going to the Dashboard tab and selecting an offer

      or

    • Going to the Search tab, providing search criteria and then selecting your offer

  2. Some offers supplied by MaxBounty need an additional approval by MaxBounty. If your offer is already approved, go to step 3.

    1. In an offer's details page, click the Request approval button. The Campaign access request pop-up window will appear.

    2. In this pop-up window, provide all required information.

      maxbounty_offer2.png
    3. Wait until this campaign gets the Approved status.

  3. Go to the Sub-ID & Callbacks section.

  4. Provide Voluum's {clickid} token in the Sub-ID (S2) text field.

A click ID value is a unique identifier of a visit, that needs to be passed from Voluum to an affiliate network platform, so, when a conversion-triggering event occurs, it can be sent back to Voluum in a postback request (in MaxBounty referred to as a callback). Then this click ID value will be matched with the original visit and conversion will be counted.

To pass information between each other servers use HTTP request parameters that are a part of a URL link. These parameters (in MaxBounty referred to as Sub-IDs ) come in parameter_name={token} pairs, where:

    • parameter_name describes a type of information that will be passed in a token. This parameter_name has to be recognized by a target platform, MaxBounty in this case. MaxBounty uses S2 parameter name to get click ID values.

    • {token} is an automatically replaceable placeholder that will be substituted with a concrete value when a URL is activated. Voluum uses {clickid} token to pass this click ID value, so providing this token into the Sub-ID (S2) text field will cause MaxBounty to build a proper tracking link that you will submit to Voluum as an offer URL in the second part of this guide.

Passing a click ID value is required if you plan to report conversions to Voluum.

You can pass additional values using other MaxBounty's parameter names. Note that you should use the S1 parameter name only to pass information about your traffic source. If you want to pass more information, click the Add more Sub-IDs button and match them with other Voluum tokens.

  5. In the same Sub-ID & Callbacks section select the URL postback type from the Callback type drop-down menu.

    Caution

Voluum Note: MaxBounty supports two types of conversion tracking methods: Server-to-server and iFrame. Most of the MaxBounty's offers use the former. This is also a recommended one and the most reliable method. With it, you can select URL callback type. If your offer uses iFrame method, you can only select the HTML option as your callback type.

  6. Provide the Voluum postback URL in the Callback code text field.

A postback is the inverse of a tracking link that MaxBounty generates: it is used to pass information back to Voluum. Analogically to this tracking link, it also uses parameters to store this information. But because this communication is going in the other direction, parameter_name and {token} kind of switch places:

    • parameter_name is now a part of the postback URL that you get from Voluum. Voluum uses the cid parameter name

    • {token} is supplied by MaxBounty this time. MaxBounty uses the same names for storing a specified type of information (S2 for a click ID value, for example), but in this case it is put between two "#" characters instead of "{" and "}" brackets like in a tracking link. So the token name for passing a click ID value back to Voluum is #SS#

In order to get the Postback URL from Voluum and provide it to MaxBounty, perform the following steps:

    1. In Voluum, click the profile_settings.png icon in the top right corner. The Settings view will appear.

    2. Go to the Tracking URLs tab.

    3. In the Postback URL section click the Copy button next to either the Postback URL or the Secure postback URL links to copy it to the clipboard.

    4. In MaxBounty, paste the copied link into the Callback code text field. Your postback URL should look like this:

      http(s)://voluum_dedicated_domain.com/postback?cid=REPLACE&payout=OPTIONAL&txid=OPTIONAL

Substitute the word REPLACE with MaxBounty's #S2# token. Optionally, you can pass payout info by substituting the word OPTIONAL next to the payout parameter name with MaxBounty's #RATE# token. Delete the remaining txid parameter. Your edited postback URL should look like this:

      http://voluum_dedicated_domain.com/postback?cid=#S2#&payout=#RATE#

You have successfully submitted Voluum postback URL to MaxBounty.

  7. Click the Save pixel button.

  8. Go to the Creatives section and the type of creatives that you are going to use from the Select creative types drop-down menu.

  9. Click the get tracking link button. The Tracking code for offer pop-up window will appear.

    maxbounty_offer5.png
  10. (Optional) If you have more than one landing page available, select the one that you are going to use in the Select the landing page you would like to link to section.

  11. Copy the link provided from the Copy this tracking code to your html text field to the clipboard. Note that the parameters you have added earlier are visible in the tracking link:

    https://www.mb103.com/lnk.asp?o=12593&c=918274&a=359149&l=12970&S1=MGID&S2={clickid}

Congratulations, you have finished all your tasks required on MaxBounty's side.

II. Add a MaxBounty Offer to Voluum

The most time-consuming part is now done. The only thing that's left is to create an offer element in Voluum with the link that you have copied. In order to do that, perform the following steps:

  1. In Voluum, go to the Offers tab. The Offers view will appear.

  2. Click the New offer button.

  3. In the New offer form provide the name of your offer in the Offer name text field.

  4. Paste the copied tracking link into the Offer URL text field.

  5. Click the Save button.

That is it, everything has been set up. You can use this newly created offer element in your campaign funnels.
