Manual Cost Update


The Manual Cost Update functionality enables you to modify your campaign(s) costs in Voluum. You can use this feature if the cost value recorded in Voluum differs from that which is reported at your traffic source.

How Does It Work?

Manual Cost Update applies to the total cost amount for a specific campaign or multiple campaigns and time frame. For example, if you have 25,000 visits recorded in a Voluum campaign over a given time frame with a corresponding cost of $250, each visit will be reflected by the cost of $0.01. When you manually update cost, make sure that the cost correlates to what is recorded on the traffic source's side. If you manually add costs on a daily basis, they should be aggregated for each time frame you specify.

Every time you make an update remember to use the same time zones and time range as your traffic source to have the cost updated accurately. For example, if your traffic source costs are recorded for today: 07/03/18 00:00 to 08/03/18 00:00 in a given time zone with a total sum of $257, you should use the same time frame, time zone, and amount for the Manual Cost Update.

Voluum Note: The Manual Cost Update functionality is designed to accept a maximum of 60 updates per each time frame (for example, you can update campaign's cost only 60 times for each day or hour). It will be reflected on a per-visit basis as well as on a granular level. This also means that the cost will be applied for reports with custom variables. The only place where the update will not be applied is the Conversions and Live events reports.

When Will the Update Be Visible?

The update of costs will be applied after several seconds and refreshing the reports. Refresh the report by clicking the Refresh button next to the calendar to observe the changes.

Updating the Cost

To update the cost, perform the following steps:

  1. In Voluum, go to Campaigns.
  2. Select the campaign for which you want to update the cost. If you want to select more than one campaign, tick the checkboxes next to each campaign name.

    The rules for updating campaigns are:

    • No archived campaigns
    • Campaigns need to have some visits
  3. Once the selected campaigns get highlighted, click the Update cost button. 

    1. Select the Time range that you want to update the cost for.
    2. Select the appropriate Time zone from the drop-down menu.
    3. (optional) If you have selected more than one campaign, you can still uncheck the box next to it and prevent it from being updated.
    4. Enter the cost amount into the Cost field and select the update currency.
    5. Click the Save button.

  4. You have updated the cost for the campaign in the selected time range.

Restoring the Cost

The option of restoring the cost reverts its back to the original values that had been registered before the Manual Cost Update feature was used. To restore the cost, perform the steps:

  1. In Voluum, go to Campaigns.
  2. Select the campaign or campaigns for which you want to update the cost.
  3. Once the selected campaign gets highlighted, click the Update cost button.

    1. Select the time range that you want to restore the cost value for.
    2. Select the appropriate Time zone from the drop-down menu.
    3. Select the Restore checkbox.
    4. (optional) If you have selected multiple campaigns, you can uncheck them and prevent their cost from being restored.
    5. Click the Save button. The Manual cost updating pop-up window will close.

  4. You have restored the cost for the campaign in the selected time range.
