Amazon Web Services: Setting up a Custom Domain


Old Setup

  1. Go to the Domains tab in Voluum settings and click the Add custom domain button.
  2. Copy the name of your Dedicated Domain from the Domains tab in Voluum.
  3. Purchase your domain from https://aws.amazon.com/ and sign into your account.
  4. Go to the Services tab.
  5. Go to the Networking & Content Delivery card and select the Route 53 or search "Route 53" in the search field and select it.
  6. Select the Hosted Zones.
  7. Select your custom domain from the list.
  8. Click the Create record button.
  9. Select the CNAME from the Record type drop-down menu.
  10. In the Record name field provide your custom subdomain name, "track" in this example or something less obvious.
  11. Paste the name of your domain from Voluum and provide it in the Value field.
  12. (Optional) Provide the lowest TTL (Time to live, i.e. time to propagate all changes through network) value in seconds, "60" in this example, for faster DNS changes propagation.
  13. Click the Create button.

CloudFront setup

  1. Purchase your domain at https://aws.amazon.com/.
  2. In Voluum, go to the Domains tab in Voluum settings and click the Add custom domain button.
  3. Provide the custom domain name with any type of prefix for your subdomain, such as "track" or something less obvious and click Save and process.
  4. Copy both CNAME record names and values.
  5. In Amazon, go to Services / Networking & Content Delivery card and select the Route 53 or search "Route 53" in the search field and select it.
  6. Select the Hosted Zones.
  7. Select your custom domain from the list.
  8. Add the first CNAME record.
    1. Click the Create record button.
    2. Select the CNAME from the Record type drop-down menu.
    3. Provide the same prefix as you used in Voluum in the Record name text field.
    4. Paste the domain record value that you have copied from Voluum in the Value text field.
    5. (Optional) Provide the lowest TTL (Time to live, i.e. time to propagate all changes through network) value in seconds, "60" in this example, for faster DNS changes propagation.
    6. Click Create records.
  9. Add the second CNAME record.
    1. Click the Create record button.
    2. Select the CNAME  from the Record type drop-down menu.
    3. Provide the certificate record name that you have copied from Voluum in the Record name text field.
    4. Paste the certificate record value that you have copied from Voluum in the Value text field.
    5. (Optional) Provide the lowest TTL (Time to live, i.e. time to propagate all changes through network) value in seconds, "60" in this example, for faster DNS changes propagation.
    6. Click Create records.
