Markers in Reports

Markers are the feature that adds a visual identification to values passed in custom variables. Markers come in the form of graphic icons. You can use them to quickly locate and filter your custom variables in a campaign's specific report.

The markers operate in the context of one campaign. If you use the same traffic source in two campaigns, the markers will appear in a campaign that they have been set up for.

Viewing Markers

Markers are connected to values passed in custom variables. In the image below, you will be able to use markers for 3 custom variables:

Voluum traffic source advanced parameters

Once you create a campaign and run traffic through it, you can view markers for that campaign. Perform the following steps to do so:

  1. In Voluum, create a specific report for that campaign.
  2. Make sure that the marker column is visible.
  3. Group your data by one of the custom variables, for example V1. In our case, this custom variable passes information about a banner ID.
  4. You can view markers and change them in the V1: Markers column.

Each marker is assigned to one or more values passed in a custom variable.

Example

In our case you use the banner_id parameter that is matched with the custom variable 1, to pass information about which banner has been used. You have 4 banners in your traffic source platform, so there are 4 possible values passed in this parameter:

  • banner1
  • banner2
  • banner3
  • banner4

You can assign each value a unique marker. Let's say that you have selected the marker to be assigned to the banner1 value. So each time the banner1 value appears in a report, it will be accompanied by the marker that you have assigned it.

Edit Markers in Bulk

You can assign or edit a marker of several values at once. In order to do that, follow the steps below:

  1. In the specific report view, select several rows containing the same or different values by ticking boxes on the left.
  2. Click the Mark or More / Mark (depending on a screen size) button and select a marker that you want to assign to these values.
