Pixel Redirect URL Option in the Traffic Source Setup
The Pixel redirect URL option is used when you need to fire client-side conversions back to your traffic source via a static pixel. In Voluum, you can find it in the traffic source setup. This solution is cookie-based; therefore a browser needs to be cookie-enabled for this functionality to work. You can use this option as an alternative method to report conversions when a server-to-server postback URL is not supported by the traffic source.
Tracking pixels are usually supplied in the following formats:
- URL: Pixel URLs are activated by an HTTP GET or POST request. Only the URL format is compatible for use as a pixel redirect URL in Voluum. Once you have got it from the affiliate network, you can directly paste it to the Pixel redirect URL field in the traffic source's configuration.
-
IMG: Image pixels are placed in the body section of a page and are normally activated upon page load (impression). When you get it from the traffic source, you need to remove all tags in the pixel and leave only the URL.
The sample image pixel received from the traffic source:
<img height="1" width="1" border="0" alt="" style="display:none" src="http://mytrafficsource.com/tr?id=156783&ev=lead&noscript=1"/>
The URL that should be pasted to the field in the traffic source configuration in Voluum:
http://mytrafficsource.com/tr?id=156783&ev=lead&noscript=1
-
JS: JavaScript pixels are placed in the head section of a web page and can be initiated upon page load (impression) or by a defined action. When you get it from the traffic source, you need to remove all tags in the pixel and leave only the URL.
The sample JavaScript pixel received from the traffic source:
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://mytrafficsource.com/tr?id=156783&ev=lead&noscript=1"/>
The pixel redirect URL that should be pasted to the field in the traffic source configuration in Voluum:
http://mytrafficsource.com/tr?id=156783&ev=lead&noscript=1
If you want to use the pixel, you need to paste the URL from your traffic source to the Pixel redirect URL field in the traffic source's configuration:
Voluum Note: While using any format of the tracking pixel, you cannot add dynamic tokens to the URL. The list of available tokens in the Voluum platform is only dedicated to be used in the postback URL.
