Adding a custom domain (new setup)

Configure a subdomain and get domain names for CNAME

  1. In your domain provider, prepare your custom domain, for example mydomain.com.
  2. Then, create a subdomain for the primary domain: track.mydomain.com.
  3. In Voluum, go to Settings / Domains and click the Add custom domain button.
  4. Provide your subdomain name and click the Save and process button.
  5. After a brief period of waiting, copy the TWO domain names with TWO corresponding values to the clipboard and click Done.
  6. Go to your domain's provider and create two CNAME records using the values that you have just copied.

Voluum Note: Creating a CNAME record for root domains is NOT within official DNS specifications (although it is allowed by some domain providers like NameCheap). This may cause issues with registering traffic. Because of that, we recommend following the instructions given above, namely:

  • (Recommended) Use a subdomain that the CNAME record will point to.
  • Use providers that provide virtual CNAME (like CloudFlare)
  • Use ALIAS records where available
