Adding a Rule-Based Path for IP Rules

Rule-based paths allow you to redirect visitors to different paths according to whether they have met certain criteria. The following article describes how to create a rule-based path based IP ranges of visitors.

Incoming traffic will be checked against set IP rules. If these rules match with traffic characteristics, it will be directed towards or away from the defined path, according to the logical condition set in the rule.

In our example, we will create two paths: one for visitors coming from the defined IP rules, and the other for the rest. Let's assume that you have already added offer and lander elements for both of these paths. In the second step, we will create a condition based on the IP rule. In order to do so, perform the following steps:

1. In Voluum, click the Create button and create a campaign in the advanced form.

   

2. Provide all required information in the GENERAL tab and click the Next button.
3. In the DESTINATION tab make sure that you have selected the Path radio button.

4. Create a rule-based path for IP rules.

   1. Click the Add rule button.
   2. Provide a name for the rule in the Rule name text field.
   3. Select the Other condition category.
   4. Click the Add condition button under the IP section.

   5. Provide the IP address or IP range in the text field.

      Voluum Note: The following feature has been designed to use IP ranges as a criterion. If you want to use a single IP address as a criterion, you should create an IP range with the same address.

   6. Click the Apply button.

      

   7. Click the New path button.
   8. Provide a name for the path in the Path name text field.

   9. Select a lander and offer elements that you wish to direct visitors from the defined IP range.

      

5. Set up a default path for remaining visitors.

   1. In the Default path section, click the New path button.
   2. Provide a name for the default path in the Path name text field.
   3. Select lander and offer elements that you wish to direct unique visitors to.

   4. Click the Save button.

      

You have successfully created a campaign with a rule-based path for visitors coming from a defined IP range. Right now, each visitor passing through Voluum will be checked against the defined IP range. If Voluum detects that a visitor is coming from that range, it will direct him or her towards a path defined in the rule-based path. The remaining traffic will be directed towards a path defined in the default path.
