Revcontent as a Traffic Source

Revcontent is the biggest content discovery network. Co-operating with the world's biggest media brands, it provides you with a global reach of native traffic. With both traffic source template and cost integrations with Voluum, tracking their traffic with Voluum cannot be easier.

Integration available: The following document describes the setup for the basic template integration. However, this traffic source can be integrated via a reliable API connection thanks to the Automizer feature. This enables accurate cost tracking, campaign management from the Voluum dashboard, and rule creation. If you want to fully integrate this traffic source with Voluum, read the Revcontent Full Integration article first.

Revcontent Integration

Note that Revcontent does not support passing information via the token. To fix this, Voluum has developed the Integration feature that offers a deeper connection between these two platforms. This connection allows for accurate cost values to be passed. If you want to use this feature, complete this guide and go to the Revcontent Full Integration article.

Before You Start

There are two things needed to create a complete campaign flow with Revcontent and Voluum. Make sure that you have:

  • An active Voluum account
  • An active Revcontent account

Once you have both, you can read the remaining part of this guide.

I. Create a Campaign in Voluum

In the first step, we describe how to create a campaign in Voluum. This will provide you with a campaign URL that you will submit as a target URL in Revcontent. In order to do so, perform the following steps:

  1. Create an offer element. Read the Add an Offer to Voluum article to learn how to do that.
  2. (Optionally) Create a lander element. Read the Add a Lander Element article to learn more.
  3. Create a traffic source element. Voluum provides you with the Revcontent traffic source template, so you can use it and skip most of the manual setup. In order to use this template, perform the following steps:

    1. In Voluum, go to Traffic sources.
    2. Click the Create button and select the Traffic source option from the drop-down menu.

    3. Select the Revcontent template.
    4. Click the Next button.
    5. You can change or adjust any option in the New traffic source form. Once you have done so, click the Save button.
  4. Create a campaign

In Voluum, go to Campaigns, click the Create button and select the Campaign Simple or Campaign Advanced option from the drop-down menu.

    1. Provide basic campaign information.

      1. In the New Campaign form in the GENERAL tab, provide the name of your campaign in the Campaign name text field.
      2. (Optional) If you have the Workspaces feature enabled on your account, select the Private Workspace from the drop-down menu that you want this campaign to be assigned to. Read the Workspaces: Overview article to learn more.
      3. Select the Revcontent traffic source that you have just created from the drop-down menu.
      4. Click the Next button.

    2. Provide traffic destination information.

      1. In the DESTINATION tab, select the campaign destination type radio button.
      2. Select offer and lander elements that you have created. Read the Set Flows and Paths article to learn more.
      3. Click the Save button.

    3. Copy the campaign URL by clicking the Copy button.

You have now successfully created a campaign in Voluum. Go to Revcontent to continue.

II. Create a Campaign Boost in Revcontent

In order to create a campaign in Revcontent, perform the following steps:

  1. In Revcontent, click the Campaign boost option in the top bar.
  2. Click the + Create Campaign Boost button.

  3. Provide a name for your campaign boost in the Boost name text field.
  4. Provide bid and budget options.
  5. Select if you want to optimize your campaign for engagement or CPA ROI.

Voluum Note: If you select that you want to optimize for CPA ROI, you will need to pass information about conversion from Voluum to Revcontent. In order to do so, you will need to create a conversion pixel by clicking the Create pixel button and submit the link from the pixel as the pixel redirect URL in the traffic source setup.

  6. Set additional traffic targeting options. Do not change any tracking code options, as everything has already been set in Voluum and the campaign URL already contains all required tracking tokens.
  7. Click the Save button. The Add content pop-up window will appear.

  8. In the Add content pop-up window, click the Add new tab.
  9. Provide the copied Campaign URL in the Destination URL text field and click the Submit button.

Voluum Note: Remove the rc_uuid={conversion_uuid} part from the campaign URL, as this tracking parameter will be appended to the destination URL automatically by Revcontent system.

  10. Provide or change any information that will be displayed in a widget on a publisher's web page.
  11. Click the Submit button.

Your campaign boost has been added and is pending approval.

IIIa. (Optional) Report Conversions to Revcontent using conversion pixel

If you have selected the option to optimize your campaign boost for CPA ROI, you need to pass information about conversion from Voluum to Revcontent.

Voluum Note: The solution for passing conversion information to Revcontent is cookie-based, so there are two factors to consider here: To report conversion information to Revcontent with the cookie-based solution, Voluum has to get this information using the same type of solution. In Voluum, the cookie-based conversion tracking solution is called Conversion Tracking Pixel. Read the Track Conversions Using a Conversion Tracking Pixel to learn more.If cookies are disabled on a visitor's web browser, information about conversion will not be recorded in Voluum, and by implication, in Revcontent.

In order to do so, go to the text editing tool where you have pasted the copied conversion pixel link and perform the following steps:

In your text editing tool, you have the copied conversion pixel. It should look like this:

    <img src="" />

Remove everything that is not a part of a URL. The URL should look like this:

Copy the URL to the clipboard.

  2. In Voluum, go to the Traffic sources tab and edit the Revcontent traffic source that you have previously created.
  3. Paste the copied URL in the Pixel redirect URL text field.
  4. Click the Save button.

With this setup, conversions will be reported to Revcontent.

IIIb. (Optional) Report Conversions to Revcontent using S2S postback URL

Revcontent now also supports passing conversions via a postback URL, a method that is far more reliable than the pixel-based solution. What's more, it allows you to use any conversion tracking method for recording conversions from an affiliate network. When using Revcontent's pixel, you were locked to using Voluum's conversion tracking pixel for that. Now you can also pass conversions tracked with a postback URL.

    Go to Voluum and edit the Revcontent's traffic source. Look for the traffic source postback URL template. It should look something like this:<your_api_key>&uuid={externalid}&amount={payout}
  2. Edit the postback URL and replace the <your_api_key> with your API access key without the < > characters.
  3. Save changes.
IV. (Optional) Use Traffic Source Cost Integration

Revcontent does not support passing information about the cost in a token. Because of that, you will not get the complete picture of your profitability or return on investment. You could use the Manual Cost Update feature and update cost information manually on a daily basis or try the Cost integration feature. This is an API-based solution that allows Voluum to automatically ask Revcontent about cost information every short period of time and update your stats accordingly. Read the Full Integration article to learn more.
