Comparison columns
Voluum allows you to compare data sets from any time ranges. You can compare last week's data with data from five days before that. The compared periods of time can even overlap with each other. This allows you to see the effects of your optimization efforts or changes made in targeting settings in your traffic source platform more clearly.
Voluum executes this functionality by introducing two features:
- Comparison columns
- Previous time range in the chart
Read the following article to learn how these features work and how you can use them in your day-to-day work with Voluum.
How Time Ranges Work
These features operate on a logic where you compare any time ranges even of different lengths. You can either select fixed time periods (for example: last week) or outline custom time ranges for both time ranges, like in the example below:
Comparison Columns
The comparison columns feature allows you to display the change for selected metrics in both absolute numbers and in percentage value. You can see the changes for the following metrics:
- Visits
- Conversions
- CV
Turning on comparison columns
In order to turn on comparison columns, perform the following steps:
- In Voluum, click the calendar.
-
Turn on the Compare toggle.
- Select both time ranges to compare, either custom or fixed one.
- (Optional) Tick the Display chart checkbox to compare changes on a chart.
- Click the Apply button.
The columns will be shown in the table below.
Reading comparison columns
After activating them, comparison columns will appear in the table, next to the columns with the given metrics:
In each comparison column you will see two values:
- The first one is a percentage difference which can be of positive or negative value. This value displays the size of the change.
- The second one is an absolute number which can be of positive or negative value. This value shows the difference between the last time range's value and the current time range's value.
