General Settings: Conversion Registration Time Reporting

Using the radio buttons for conversion registration time reporting permits you to change how your global conversion reporting is represented based on event timestamps. The following article covers the different time-based options available for conversion reporting and what kind of impact they have on displaying your reports.

There are two different time-based factors that implicate how conversion reports are generated: visit timestamp and postback timestamp.

  • Visit Timestamp : Time of when a user visited your campaign.
  • Postback timestamp : Time of when a conversion is registered for a user that visited your campaign.
Visit Time Reporting

The default setting for conversion reporting is set on a visit timestamp basis. This means that when a conversion is registered, it will be counted within global reporting based on the visit time.

Example:

A user visits the campaign on 16th July 2018 at 11:14:58 A.M. However, the conversion for the user has a delay (subject to the genre of the offer promoted). The conversion event is then relayed back to Voluum two days later on the 18th July 2018 at 09:37:46 A.M.

If I view a campaign report with the report time range set to only the 18th of July, the conversion won’t be counted as it would be attributed to the visit time on the 16th of July. To have the conversion visible across all of reporting, it would be required to adjust the report time range to also include the 16th of July.

Voluum Info : The conversion will still be visible within the conversions report for the 18th July, when it was received.

Postback Time Reporting

Reporting by postback time will update global reporting based on the time conversions are received on your campaign. Referencing the example provided above, the conversion will be counted across all reporting when the selected report time range includes the 18th of July.

When conversion reporting is based on a postback timestamp, you will have a better correlation of conversion statistics from within Voluum and 3rd party attributed to your campaign.

Which time zone Voluum uses for reporting events?

Your Voluum reports are showing the hour of the visit in real-time. It doesn't matter if your traffic source is set up, for example to UTC+2 and Voluum is set up to UTC-7.If the visitor enters the campaign at 18:00 (6 PM) UTC+2, in your Voluum reports it will be reported under 9:00 AM UTC-7, because between UTC+2 and UTC-7, there is a nine-hour offset. You can change the time zone inside Voluum accordingly to see the corresponding data between Voluum and your traffic source.
