Editing Landers in Bulk

The Export/Import feature is based on the mechanism of updating many entities at once using the CSV table format. Voluum enables you to modify the existing landers in bulk. In general, there are three major steps of the updating process: first, you need to download all landers that are already in Voluum, next update them locally, and then, upload to Voluum only those ones that have been modified. If you have not touched part of the landers in the CSV file, those entities might be removed from the file to speed up the process of importing them. Those landers will be still available in Voluum, but they will not be updated. Let's then start with the process of updating many landers at once.

To export landers from Voluum, perform the following steps:

  1. Sign in to Voluum.
  2. Go to Landers. The Landers view will show up.
  3. You might choose one of the available options:

    • To export all active landers, click the Export/Import > Export all landers drop-down button.
    • To export only those landers that you want to update, in the Landers view select checkboxes next to the landers you want to export and then, click the Export/Import > Export selected landers drop-down button.

      Tip

Voluum Tip: If you press and hold the Shift button on your keyboard and select two entities in the Landers view, all entities between them will be selected automatically.

The confirmation pop-up window will show up.

  4. Click the Ok button to confirm that you want to export all landers from Voluum.
  5. Save the CSV file with the exported landers locally on your machine.

Voluum Note: Keep in mind that you should always save a copy of the originally exported CSV file locally, in case you would like to reverse changes after applying them to Voluum. The Voluum platform offers a Export/Import for new or edited landers. There is no automated way of canceling the updates, so you would not be able to do this without the copy of the original CSV file.

  6. If the CSV file contains more than 250 landers, you need to split it into smaller files where each of them can contain maximum 250 rows with landers and one row (the first one) with a description.
II. Update the Landers Locally

Once you have got the CSV file with the exported landers, you can update the lander's properties. While modifying the landers, you need to remember to keep the Voluum's data structure in the file. Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to upload the CSV file to Voluum.

  1. Open the downloaded Voluum template with a CSV editor that works best for you.
  2. Modify entries for the exported landers following basic rules listed below:

    1. The file must be properly formatted CSV and saved using UTF-8 character encoding.
    2. One CSV file can contain up to 250 landers. It means that there should be up to 251 rows in the file - the first row is dedicated for a description of columns.
    3. One lander is represented on a separate row in the CSV file.
    4. In the file, each row must end with a line break.
    5. Each column must be separated with a semicolon.
    6. Lander's properties are added according to a certain pattern delivered within the Voluum template.

Before you start editing the CSV file, read more about the way how the Voluum's data should be stored:

A CSV Template with Edited Landers

Each row in the CSV file might contain the listed pieces of information for one landers. Note that only certain pieces of information are required and they are associated with the required fields in the lander's form in Voluum. Other properties might remain blank.

Lander ID: {lander_ID_specific_for_Voluum} ; # Property required; the lander ID is automatically available in the downloaded CSV file

      Lander's name: {your_unique_custom_name} ; # Property required

      Lander's URL: {your_lander_URL} ;  # Property required

Country: {two-letter_country_code} ; # Property optional; if blank the Global value will be set

      Tags: {tags_separated_by_spaces} ; # Property optional

  3. Remove those lander entities that you have not modified. Thus, you can accelerate the process of uploading the file to Voluum. Only the landers available in the CSV file will be modified. Other lander entities with their properties will remain the same.

Voluum Info: Every time when you upload entities (offers or landers) in bulk, only those ones will be updated that are stored in the CSV file. Other entities will neither be changed nor removed.

  4. Save the CSV files with the landers locally on your machine. The file must be properly formatted and saved using UTF-8 character encoding.
III. Import the Updated CSV File to Voluum

When you have finished updating the landers in the CSV file, you only need to upload the file to the Voluum platform.

To update the modified landers, go to the Voluum platform and upload the file:

  1. Sign in to Voluum.
  2. Go to the Landers. The Landers view will show up.
  3. Click the Export/Import > Import edited landers drop-down button.
  4. Click the Start importing button in the form (bottom right screen). The file upload screen will show up.

    Tip

Voluum Tip: You need to follow a data pattern implemented in the Voluum platform to be able to upload many landers at once. It is highly recommended to always use the CSV template while importing landers in bulk.

  5. Select the prepared CSV file and upload it to Voluum.
  6. Wait until the CSV file will upload to Voluum. If any data is provided inaccurately, a list of errors will get displayed in the bulk import form. You will also find tips how to correct rows with the offers in the file to make it work properly.

  7. Once the CSV file is uploaded to the Voluum platform, click the Import button (bottom right screen). You should see the message that the process of importing landers in bulk has finished successfully. All landers should be added to Voluum and displayed in the Landers view.
  8. Click the Close button in the Import new landers form. You have successfully added landers to the Voluum platform.

What to do if I have more than 250 landers to be created?

If you need to add more than 250 landers to the Voluum platform, you need to prepare CSV files with a set of 250 landers each and repeat the process of uploading the CSV files until you add all the landers you want to have to Voluum.

Is there any maximum size of the CSV file that can be uploaded?

Yes, you can upload the file with a maximum size up to 5 MB.

Can I remove landers that I have added in bulk?

No, you cannot remove them. In general, you cannot remove entities in Voluum. If you do not need to use landers, you can always archive them.

Can I add any other elements in bulk to Voluum?

Yes, you can add or modify other campaign elements. It allows you to work with up to 250 campaign elements at once. For more information, go to the Export / Import article.
