TikTok and Its Family of Apps as a Traffic Source

TikTok is one of the most downloaded mobile app in recent months. It allows its users to share short talent videos. TikTok family consists of other apps, video or news related. They all use TikTok Ads UI to offer a unified ad-buying space, however, they offer different placements and ad formats, and are available in different countries. The TikTok family of apps is as follows:

  • TikTok

  • Vigo

  • TopBuzz

  • BuzzVideo

  • NewsRepublic

  • Babe

You can find the most recent list of placements and country availability under the following link: Placements and available locations

Tracking TikTok Traffic

TikTok allows you to advertise a web page or an app. There is no support for dynamic tracking tokens. However, you can use both direct and redirect methods of tracking. Conversion tracking is supported by its proprietary JavaScript pixel, so there is no possibility to pass conversion information from Voluum to TikTok. You can use both Voluum and TikTok conversion tracking methods in parallel, independently from each other. The following guide describes a campaign focused on acquiring conversions. This requires creating and setting up a TikTok tracking pixel, which can be implemented via Google Tag Manager. For campaigns not focused on conversions, this step will not be required, but the remaining setup process will be very similar.

Caution

Voluum Note: Take into consideration that currently TikTok supports running ads only for selected countries and only to advertize proprietary offers. It does not allow you to promote business run by others or personal web pages.

Before You Start

There are several things required for setting up tracking. Make sure you have the following before you dig into this guide:

  • An active Voluum account.

  • An active TikTok Ads account.

  • An offer and, optionally, a lander.

  • Optionally, a Google Tag Manager account set, and a GTM container implemented on your "Thank You" page. This is recommended for campaigns that are focused on getting the most conversions.

Once you have everything ready, proceed with the rest of this guide.
