Getting Started With Reports Step 2: Grouping vs Drill-down

Finding the information you need is key to effective optimization. The path to that information is by defining the right data sets. In Voluum, you have two main ways to get to a required data set: drill-down and grouping. Understanding the differences between these reporting types will allow you to get to the information you want.

Grouping vs Drill-down

  • Grouping

    • Available for global and specific reports.

    • Shows stats that match all selected grouping criteria.

    • Allows up to 3 grouping options

  • Drill-down option

    • Available for specific reports only.

    • Shows data for selected elements only.

    • Allows up to 7 levels of details.

Grouping Example

The following feature is available on Profit pricing plan and above.

In the following example, you will learn how to check how your offers (criterion 1) perform on various device types (criterion 2) for a selected campaign.

  1. Create a specific report for your campaign, in our example, it is the My Traffic Source - Global - Winter Offers campaign.

  2. Criterion 1 (Offers):

    • Select the first grouping criteria by selecting the Offers from the first grouping drop-down menu.

  3. Criterion 2 (Device types):

    • Select the second grouping criteria by selecting the Device types from the second grouping drop-down menu.

  4. Click the Apply button.

  5. Note the unfold_icon.png icon appearing next to the offer name. Click the unfold_icon.png icon to expand device types in the selected offer.

  6. You can see how much traffic you had in the selected offer divided by device type.

Drill-down Example

The following feature is available on Profit pricing plan and above.

In the following example, you can see how your campaign My Traffic Source - Global - Winter Offers campaign (drill-down level 1) performs in the United States  (drill-down level 2) on Mobile phones (drill-down level 3) for your offers. You will need to drill-down into three levels of detail to get this data. To do so, perform the following steps:

  1. Drill-down level 1 (Campaign): Create a specific report for your My Traffic Source - Global - Winter Offers campaign.

  2. Drill-down level 2 (Country): Select the Country category.

  3. Select the country United States.

  4. Click the Drill-down button.

  5. Drill-down level 3 (device type): Click the Device types category and select the Device types option from the drop-down menu.

  6. Select the Mobile phone device type.

  7. Click the Drill-down report button.

Now you can view your stats within the narrowed report. Your drilled-down report should look like this:
