Voluum TRK FAQ

Have more questions? You might find answers below:

1. AFFILIATE NETWORK

1.1.

There is a string added to my offer URL. What is it?

http://my_offer_URL.com/?aff_id=1337&offer_ id=13432?subid=c384EFV6JHQODRN70575OK6UG

5. CAMPAIGNS

5.1.

What is the advantage of using the Cost model option?

Tracking Costs.

Tracking Impressions in Voluum.

5.2.

Should I set up settings in the Conversion reporting to traffic source section?

5.3.

I'm sure that I have added the flow to Voluum, but I cannot see it among other flows during selection. Could you explain why?

6. COLLABORATION TOOLS: MULTI-USER

6.1.

In the Collaboration tools I only see the option of adding a new Private Workspace. How can I add another Public Workspace?

The Public Workspace is created by default for each Voluum account, and there can be only one per account. The Public Workspace contains all publicly shared elements, and therefore, you cannot add another Public Workspace.

6.2.

I don't see the Invite user button in the Multi-User tab.

The Invite user button is visible only if you have available invitations left. The number of available invitations depends on your pricing plan and is shown above the List of users table.

avaiable_invitations.png

6.3.

How can I delete a Workspace that I have created?

In general, you cannot delete a Workspace once it has been created. Nevertheless, you can simply un-assign users from this Workspace and move campaign's elements to another Workspace. To learn how to move campaign elements, read the  Moving Campaign Elements Between Workspaces article.

6.4.

I want to downgrade my pricing plan, what will happen with my invited users?

Each pricing plan has a number of users that you can invite to cooperate on your account. If you currently have more users invited than downgraded plan's limit, any pending invitations and the most recently added users will be removed after the new billing cycle starts. You can remove users manually until the end of the current billing cycle.

6.5.

I have tried to edit the flow that was visible to me, but I could not save any changes. Why is that?

You might be trying to edit a public element. In this case, the campaign's element is in read-only mode, meaning that you can use it in the campaign funnel, but you cannot  save any changes made to this campaign's element setup. If you need to provide changes to the public element, contact your Account Owner or one of the Admins.

6.6.

Can I assign the campaign element to more than one Workspace?

At the moment, you cannot assign the campaign element to more than one Workspace.

6.7.

I have created an offer, but I don't see it while creating a campaign. I should be able to use campaign elements that I have created, shouldn't I?

If you are assigned to more than one Private Workspace, make sure that the offer that you want to use is assigned to the same Workspace as the campaign that you are creating.

7. COLLABORATION TOOLS: SHARED REPORTS

7.1.

I want to edit the report that I have shared. How can I do that?

Currently, there is no option to edit the report once it has been created. You can always delete the report and create a new one with edited settings.

7.2.

Is there a limit of people that I can share the report with?

The shared report can be viewed by an unlimited number of people.

7.3.

How many shared reports can I create?

The maximum number of shared reports available for the account is 100. If you want to create more reports, you need to delete the old ones.

8. COLLABORATION TOOLS: WORKSPACES

8.1.

Does Voluum notify previously invited users about switching to the Workspaces feature?

No, you will have to notify them yourself. After the update process is complete, their account will be automatically switched to the Worker role. After signing in to Voluum, they will see a link to the Being a Worker in Voluum article at the top of the screen, that describes in details the new role they have.

8.2.

Do you provide any revert option to the previous state?

Currently, the update is one way only and you cannot reverse the applied changes.

8.3.

Will I still have access to all my data and my previous stats?

Yes. The update process does not delete any data, but only restructures it to give you an option to better organize your workload. Only Workers will have limited access to stats, but you can change their role to Admin for full access at any time.

8.4.

Can I move a Worker from one Workspace to another?

Yes, you can move Workers to other Workspaces freely. Just keep in mind that the Worker has to have at least one Workspace assigned.

8.5.

I have the Workspaces feature on my account and I want to downgrade my pricing plan. What will happen with Workers I invited?

Downgrading your pricing plan reduced the number of Workers available. The downgrade is processed at the end of your current billing cycle. You will have to remove Workers that are above your new, downgraded pricing plan till the end of your billing cycle. If you fail to do so, Voluum will remove the overage number of Workers automatically, starting with the most recently added. Pending user invitations will be removed first.

You will get the information about removing your Workers immediately upon downgrade.

8.6.

I have the Worker role assigned to me and I want to collaborate with other Workers on campaign funnels. Can I have a limited access to the Public Workspace, so all of us can work together?

The permissions you have as a Worker does not allow you to create any elements in the Public Workspace. However. you can choose one of the following scenarios how you can cooperate with a daily basis:

  • Contact your Account Owner or Admin and ask them to create necessary campaign's elements in the Public Workspace

  • You and other Workers that you want to collaborate with can be assigned to the same Private Workspace, which will allow you to work together on your campaign funnels.

8.7.

Will my traffic in the Workspaces that I have filtered out be affected in any way?

No. Using the filtering by Workspaces option only hides some content from viewing, it does nothing to the traffic flow or hidden element's setup.

9. CONVERSION CAP

9.1.

Is there any limit of offers in the chain?

Yes, there is. You can have maximum 10 offers in the redirection chain. If there is a loop of offers that point to each other and daily caps for all the offers in the loop are exceeded, conversions will be added to the primary offer in the loop.

9.2.

What will happen when I change the limit of daily conversions, Daily cap, in the offer's configuration while the campaign is running?

If you change the daily conversion limit in the Daily cap field, the change is immediately applied to the campaign funnel's configuration. In other words, if the newly updated limit allows to add more conversions to the primary offer, all traffic will point to that offer until the daily cap limit is going to be exceeded. Otherwise, visitors will see the redirect offer.

9.3.

My Conversion cap status is 152/150 what means there have been more conversions that I had set in the Daily cap limit. Could you explain why?

Sometimes you might see the number of conversion exceeding daily cap limit.

conversion_cap_status_override.png

When the daily cap has been reached, new visitors will be redirected to the redirect offer. However, some visitors can make the conversions much later than the daily cap is activated what might result that the limit is surpassed.

9.4.

What happens when I add conversions to Voluum manually?

If you upload conversions using the Conversion upload option in the Voluum's settings, the conversions will not be included in the daily cap limit.

9.5.

What to do in case of traffic overload?

When there is a sudden increase of traffic, you might experience some delays on triggering the redirection to the other offer. However, the delay should not be larger than 5 minutes.

9.6.

Is there any limit of offers in the chain?

Yes, there is. You can have maximum 10 offers in the redirection chain. If there is a loop of offers that point to each other and daily caps for all the offers in the loop are exceeded, conversions will be added to the primary offer in the loop.

9.7.

I have double-checked which offer my visitors are seeing and this is the primary offer. Could you explain why?

Due to the delay in triggering it might happen that the visitors will see the primary offer. However, the delay should not last longer than 5 minutes.

9.8.

10. CONVERSION COST

10.1.

May I send the conversion cost to the traffic source even though I use the pixel redirect URL?

You can pass on the conversion cost information from Voluum to the traffic source, if only the traffic source supports this functionality. It means that the traffic source should deliver the parameter that can be matched with the {conversion.cost}  token in the pixel redirect URL.

10.2.

I have used the {campaign.cpa} token to send the conversion cost to the traffic source? May I still use it?

No, you should replace the existing {campaign.cpa} token by the extended {conversion.cost} version. The {campaign.cpa} token is deprecated and you should not use it.

11. CUSTOM CONVERSIONS

11.1.

How many slots can I create in the Custom conversions tab?

You can add maximum 20 slots and define up to 10 parameter values per 1 slot.

11.2.

Unfortunately I cannot use the postback URL to track conversions, so I use a tracking pixel. Can I still use the Custom Conversion feature?

Yes, you can use the tracking pixel, tracking pixel URL, or tracking script. The concept of adding the custom conversion event is exactly the same, however you need to define your tracking pixel properly. In other words, you need to add the et parameter to the tracking pixel and an appropriate conversion type token specified by the affiliate network.

Getting back to the example presented above, the tracking pixel should look as follows:

  • For the first affiliate network:

    • Tracking pixel for installing the app:

      https://your_Voluum_domain.com/conversion.gif?cid=[subid]&payout=[commission]&txid=[transactionID]&et=install
    • Tracking pixel for in-app purchase:

      https://your_Voluum_domain.com/conversion.gif?cid=[subid]&payout=[commission]&txid=[transactionID]&et=purchase
  • For the second affiliate network where you can define one tracking pixel for both events:

    https://your_Voluum_domain.com/conversion.gif?cid=#AFF_SUB_ID#&payout=#PAYOUT# &txid=#TID#&et=#TYPE#

11.3.

Can I remove a slot that I have already added?

No, you cannot do it. You can only modify the existing slot of the custom conversion type by selecting it and next, clicking the Edit button.

11.4.

I want to upload conversions manually with information on custom conversions. Can I do it?

Yes, you can. You can upload your conversions manually with the Conversion upload functionality.

You can upload your conversions manually by going to the Conversion upload tab:

  1. Sign in to Voluum.

  2. Click the profile_settings.png icon (top right screen). Your account view will show up.

  3. Click the Conversion upload tab.

  4. Provide one click ID per line with optional parameters separated by commas. The optional parameters are payout, transaction ID, and conversion type.

If you do not want to use a parameter, leave a blank space, but keep the commas.

Example 1:

You have two conversions that you want to upload with different click ID: c384EFV6JHQODRN70575OK6U and d574EPV2JHQQQRN70575OGHC, but with the same conversion type, install.

You have defined the custom conversion event, so they can be registered in Voluum as two different conversion types.

To upload the conversions manually, provide the lines in the Conversion upload panel as presented below:

conversion_upload_the_same_type.png

Once you have clicked the Save button, the conversions will be uploaded and then, added as two conversions with the same type.

Example 2:

You have two conversions that you want to upload with same click ID, d574EPV2JHQQQRN70575OGHC, but different conversion types: install and inapp

You have defined the custom conversion event, so the conversions can be registered in Voluum as two different conversion types.

To upload the conversions manually, provide the lines in the Conversion upload panel as presented below:

conversion_upload_different_types.png

Once you have clicked the Save button, two conversions of different types but with the same click ID will be uploaded and then, added as two conversions with the same click ID, but different type.

12. DIRECT TRACKING PIXEL

12.1.

I would like to track my offers without re-targeting visitors to a landing page. Could it be possible with Direct Tracking Pixel?

12.2.

If I set Direct Tracking Pixel on a landing page, can I still use the same landing page for the standard redirect Voluum campaigns? If so, how visits and conversions are registered?

12.3.

My click URL is not working, after I click it, I get the "401 Unauthorized" message. What could be wrong?

13. DOMAINS

13.1.

I've added the custom domain, but it isn't working. What could be a potential problem?

To run high-volume campaigns, it is highly recommended that you set up and use a custom tracking domain in Voluum. While doing so, you need to set a CNAME record for your custom subdomain pointing to one of your legacy domains or, if only available, to your unique Voluum Dedicated Domain.

Following the CNAME configuration for your subdomain and after adding your custom domain to your Voluum account, it's possible that you will be returned with the following response after verifying the domain's DNS settings:

domain_validation_error.png
  • If you have set up a new domain make sure to wait 2-20 hours to fully propagate Domain Name System (DNS).

  • If you are setting a CNAME record on an older domain, keep an eye out for the Time to Live (TTL) setting; by default, the TTL setting is set to 14400 seconds which is 4 hours. It means that your subdomain and CNAME may take that long to propagate. You can shorten this by modifying the TTL number for your CNAME record.

  • If the Dedicated Domain is assigned to your Voluum account, double-check the domain configuration on the registrar's side: the custom domain should point to the Voluum Dedicated Domain

13.2.

Why should I use the Custom Domain?

To run high-volume campaigns, it is highly recommended that you set up and use a custom tracking domain in Voluum. Voluum's users, who do not use the Custom Domain, will be automatically assigned to either a legacy domain or the Dedicated Domain.

You need to keep in mind that the Voluum team does not take responsibility for what users run through the legacy domains, therefore there is a risk that the legacy domains may potentially get flagged by antivirus software, traffic sources, etc. Although the Dedicated Domains are only assigned to your account, still we encourage you to add the custom domain and next, set it up as the main domain in Voluum.

The legacy domains follow one of the following patterns:

  • unique_subdomain_name.trackvoluum.com

  • unique_subdomain_name.voluumtrk.com

  • unique_subdomain_name.voluumtrk2.com

  • unique_subdomain_name.voluumtrk3.com

and you can find them in the Legacy Domains section in the Settings > Domains tab in Voluum.

If the Dedicated Domain is already set on your account, in turn you will find it in the Dedicated Domain section.

13.3.

Can I enable SSL for my Custom Domain to have a fully secure campaign funnel?

Yes, you can request an SSL certificate for your Custom Domain. To do so, read the  Enabling SSL for a Custom Domain article.

You can also use SSL on the Redirect Domain. Read the  Enabling SSL for a Redirect Domain article to learn how to do so.

13.4.

I want to downgrade my pricing plan and I wonder, what will happen with my Custom Domains?

Each pricing plan has a number of Custom Domains you can add on your account. If you have added more Custom Domains than the limit of your downgraded pricing plan then, starting from the new billing cycle, the most recently added domains that exceed this limit will stop receiving traffic. You will need to update your campaign funnels with other Custom Domain names or your Dedicated Domain name.

13.5.

Can I move my newly paid SSL certificate to another domain?

No, it's per domain. You cannot assign a certificate to other domain.

14. IP ANONYMIZATION

14.1.

Can I turn on IP Anonymization for only specific IP locations?

No. You can only enable the IP Anonymization feature globally. You cannot specify a range of IP addresses or geolocations for which you would like to anonymize IPs.

14.2.

Can I anonymize IP addresses backwards?

No, there is no way of changing the IP addresses retrospectively. The IP addresses are started being anonymized after activating the functionality.

15. IP / UA FILTERING

15.1.

Is there any limit of the filtering rules that can be added?

Yes, there is. You can add up to 50 filtering rules in the table. Moreover, for each rule you can define up to 50 lines either for the IP addresses / IP ranges or the user agents values.

15.2.

How specifically should I define a user agent substring?

When adding a user agent value, you should provide the substring that is unique to the associated automatic computer program. Using generic values found within common user agents could result in filtering out of the valid traffic that is sent to your campaigns.

15.3.

Could you explain what will happen when I provide the IP addresses and user agent substrings for one filtering rule?

If you provide values in both text fields, IP / IP range and User agent, for one filtering rule, all values will be applicable separately meaning that the traffic events will be blocked independently for each IP address (or the IP range) and user agent value.

15.4.

Could you specify if the traffic will be excluded only from reporting or if Voluum blocks events that are defined by the filtering rule?

Voluum IP / UA Filtering excludes the added IP addresses, IP ranges, and UA values from accessing your campaigns and therefore, protects your statistics. However, it does not change any historical data. It also means that if you added the filtering rules based on the IP address (or IP range) specific for your organization, you would not be able to reach out your campaign URLs from the office.

15.5.

I would like to exclude a wide range of IPs from my traffic using the filtering rule. May I specify only the IP address with its subnet mask?

Yes, you may.

15.6.

Does IP Anonymization have an impact on IP / UA Filtering?

No. Even if you activate the IP Anonymization functionality, you can still filter out IP addresses that generate fake traffic. The functionality works normally in that case. To find out more, go to the  General Settings: IP Anonymization article.

16. LANDERS

16.1.

I would like to run my campaigns in Voluum, but I'm not sure if I need to have a landing page for each single campaign. If so, do I still need to set a landing page for each campaign to be able to track data in Voluum?

16.2.

I want to use a landing page in my campaign funnels. Could you recommend what kind of landing pages works best?

17. OFFERS

17.1.

My affiliate network has sent me some documents describing sub-IDs and callbacks setup? Could you explain me how it is related to the offer configuration and what I am supposed to do?

http://www.my_offer_URL.com/?s2={clickid}

Parameters in Postback URLs.

17.2.

Can I add the offer even if I track ads on my own site?

17.3.

My offer's URL looks as follows: http://www.my_offer.com/?s2={clickid}. As far as I understand when the offer is clicked, a unique value, that should be generated, is added at the end of the offer's URL replacing the {clickid} token. For example, upon a click I should get as follows: http://www.my_offer.com/?s2=c384EFV6JHQODRN70575OK6UG5. But in my case the value is added twice. Could you explain why?

18. TRAFFIC SOURCES

18.1.

I haven't found a template of my traffic source in Voluum? Do I still need to set up the traffic source?

Yes, you do. Creating the traffic source in Voluum is a mandatory step in the process of setting up a campaign. Briefly speaking, it allows to map pieces of information between the traffic source and the Voluum platform to gather as much as possible data while propagating your campaign.

18.2.

There are Available URL tokens listed in the traffic source configuration window? Should I use them? What do they mean?

Tokens enable you to pass back additional data to the traffic source upon conversion via their supported S2S postback URL. You can only use them if your traffic source uses a server-to-server postback call. If there is only a pixel redirect URL, you do not need to use tokens at all. The most important is the {externalid} field in Voluum that should be mapped with a unique clickid/subid defined in the traffic source.

18.3.

What is {externalid}?

{externalid} is a unique parameter in a postback URL that you can define while adding a traffic source in Voluum. The server-to-server postback URL enables you to send data from one server to another by requesting a unique URL using the HTTP (or HTTPS) protocol. When you define the postback URL with tokens such as clickid, you can send this data back to the traffic source. The clickids (or subid, the token name is defined by the traffic source) are used to track a unique conversion event per user. You need to map this clickid with the Voluum’s externalid while configuring the traffic source. This allows to send back information to the traffic source that the successful conversion has been registered.

What are the {var1}{var2}, ... tokens?

The {var1}, {var2} and var-typed fields are tokens that return values of given custom variables passed from the traffic source.

I have added the entity of my traffic source, but the traffic source documentation says that they don't support a postback URL. Will I be able to track conversions in Voluum?

Yes, you will be able to track conversions in Voluum, but you will not be able to track conversions in the chosen traffic source. It is mandatory to define the traffic source in Voluum, but the Traffic source postback URL field in the traffic source configuration is optional. The reason of setting up this field as optional is that some traffic sources may not use a postback URL, therefore you will not have one. In that case, you will not be able to track conversions in the traffic source, because there will be no data that allows to uniquely identify user’s actions. However, you can still register visits and conversions in Voluum. The traffic source may also use a pixel redirect URL. For example, Google AdWords and Facebook traffic source exchange data based on it.

I would like to find out more about the automatic tracking cost of a campaign.

To track cost automatically in Voluum, first you need to set it up in the traffic source’s configuration and then, select the Auto option in the Edit Campaign window. To double-check if all options are correct, in the configuration of the traffic source selected for your campaign check if the Cost in the Advanced Parameters is mapped with the cost parameter provided by the traffic source. To do so, first you need to go to the traffic source documentation and find the name of the parameter and then double check the provided Cost field in the Advanced Parameters section.

Take a look at the example of mapping the Cost parameter in the Advanced Parameters section in the traffic source configuration:

Once the Cost field has been mapped, select the Auto option in the campaign’s configuration with the traffic source entity you have set up. You should see the campaign’s cost in Voluum.

I want to track how many times my ad was displayed, is it possible in Voluum?

This is called impression tracking. An impression is tracked each time a user loads a webpage that an impression pixel is placed on. Therefore, it requires that your traffic source supports impression pixels. Once you have confirmed that the impression pixel can be enabled in the traffic source, you need to perform the steps in the  Tracking Impressions in Voluum in Voluum article.

Does IP Anonymization have an impact on passing information within an {ip} token?

Yes. An IP address is passed to a traffic source in a shorter, anonymized version. To learn more, go to the  General Settings: IP Anonymization article.
