Common Reasons for No DSP Traffic

Voluum DSP DSP Campaign Optimization

If you have problems with receiving traffic, go through the following article and you may find a solution.

Scenario 1: There are no Internal bids

What needs to be checked?

  1. DSP credit:  Verify that you have not run out of budget. Your DSP credit amount is visible on the top right corner of the Voluum panel.

  2. Total budget: Check if the total the campaign has not been reached. Extend the time and date range on your Voluum panel to see data for a longer period of time. Then compare the reported cost with the specified by you in the Basic tab of your campaign form. If your campaign stopped bidding on one specific ad exchange, please check max daily spend per ad exchange accordingly.

  3. Daily budget: Check the spend for today and compare with the campaign setup.

General setup:

  1. Campaign status: It may happen that your campaign is paused or rejected. Also, remember that if you modify destination URL, anything within the flow or all the creatives at once, your campaign will be pending approval again and not bidding.

  2. Start and end dates: Check the start and end dates of your campaign. It frequently happens that the end date of your campaign has passed.

  3. Day Parting: Check if your campaign is not limited by the Day Parting feature. Remember that day parting works according to the time zone selected in your campaign.

  4. Bid: Some of the ad exchanges send the minimum price in the request. If you bid lower, the campaign will not participate in an auction. You can check what the recommended bid is here:

  5. Traffic volumes: Check if the targeted ad exchange has traffic with all the targeting conditions you selected: ad type (native / banner), source type, device type, operating system, connection type. Take into consideration also all the bid adjustments / pausing placements options. For example, it may happen that you are targeting sites but the ad exchange offers only in-app traffic.

  6. Creatives and headlines: Some ad exchanges require and accept only the exact size of creatives and the exact number of symbols in headlines. If you need more info, check the requirements of the ad exchanges targeted in your campaign in the  Creatives Requirements for Native Campaigns article. If the sizes of creatives or headlines do not match the requirements sent in the bid requests, the campaign will not run. You can verify if your creatives or headlines match the requirements of an ad exchange by performing the following steps:

    1. In Voluum, edit a campaign with creatives or headlines that you want to verify.

    2. Go to the Creatives tab in a campaign edit form.

    3. Click the pen.png icon next to the creative that you want to verify. The creative details will open.

    4. In the creative details you can verify:

      • If headline does not exceed allowed number of characters.

      • If the creative does not exceed allowed size.

  7. Whitelist / Blacklist: If you have a placement list uploaded, check whether these placements are available in the targeted ad exchanges and countries. Additionally, make sure you have not paused the ad exchange that was the main source of the whitelisted placements. In a case of a blacklist, check if it does not exclude the main part of the traffic you receive, taking into consideration possible low volumes of traffic on some less common countries, OS and other targeting conditions.

  8. Bid adjustments: Check if you did not pause part of your targeting websites or countries. Sometimes it causes the campaign to stop winning.

Scenario 2: There are some Internal Bids but there are no Total Bids

What needs to be checked?

Bid: It may happen that your bid matches the minimum bid floor required for the ad exchange (your campaign has internal bids) but there is another Advertiser in Voluum DSP who bids more on the very same traffic (your campaign has no total bids).

Scenario 3: There are total Bids but no Impressions

What needs to be checked?

  1. Bid: It may happen that your bid wins auctions within Voluum DSP but all ad exchanges sent traffic to other partners too and some external Advertiser can overbid you.

  2. Additional approval: Another explanation of having internal bids and total bids recorded without one single impression is that some ad exchanges we work with must also approve campaigns on their side. In case your campaign was approved by us, but was rejected or not yet approved by the ad exchange itself, you may see it bidding but not winning any impression.
