Setting Up a Direct Tracking Pixel for Landers

Use the no-redirect traffic tracking method from Voluum Ad Tracker to streamline your affiliate campaign funnel and track organic traffic.

A Voluum campaign consists of several specific components that you need to configure before start running the campaign. With Direct Tracking Pixel for Landers you need to set one landing page in your campaign funnel to be able to track visits without the initial redirect (mind that impressions cannot be tracked with this method).

This article instructs you on how to prepare a setup to use the direct tracking method.

Table of Contents
Before You Start

Before you start, you need to have:

  • A landing page ready and hosted externally of Voluum.

  • A lander and offer elements added to Voluum.

I. Enable the Direct Tracking Option for the Traffic Source in Voluum

Firstly, you need to add a traffic source element in Voluum with the direct tracking method enabled. To do so, follow the steps:

  1. In Voluum, go to Traffic sources. The Traffic sources view will show up.

  2. Click the New traffic source button.

  3. Select the traffic source template and click the Next button.

  4. In the form go to the Direct tracking option and turn on the toggle.

  5. Provide all the other required settings and click the Save button.

II. Create a Direct Tracking Campaign

Once the option is enabled for the traffic source where you are going to advertise your offers, you need to create a campaign with the direct tracking method:

  1. In Voluum, go to Campaigns. The Campaigns view will show up.

  2. Click the New campaign button. The New campaign form will show up. In the following example, a simple campaign form will be used.

  3. Select the traffic source that you created in the previous section from the Traffic source drop-down menu.

  4. Provide other pieces of information in the GENERAL tab of the campaign's form. Remember to select one lander. If you need to learn more details about creating the campaign in Voluum, go to the Create a Campaign - Part 1: General article.

  5. Click the Save button to go to the TRACKING tab.

  6. In the TRACKING tab, select a tracking domain that you are going to use.

  7. Select a lander that will have the direct tracking pixel implemented from the drop-down menu.

Voluum Note: Make sure that the lander you select here will be the same lander with the direct tracking pixel. If you use any intermediary lander and any redirection, the Direct Tracking Pixel will not work and you will get the Lander not matched error in Error Log.

  8. Click the Copy button next to the Direct tracking URL (lander) to copy it and paste it to any text editing tool. This is the URL that you need to submit to the traffic source for approval. If you use more landing pages in the funnel, you need to select this one for which you want to use the direct tracking method.

  9. Click the Copy button next to the Direct tracking Pixel (lander) to copy it and paste it to any text editing tool. This is the JavaScript code block that you need to add to the landing page.

Voluum Note: If you use a secure connection (https://) for your landing page, you need to have the JavaScript code block with an activated SSL certificate on your Voluum domain. If the certificate is already enabled in Voluum, the pixel will automatically show up in the correct version. If the certificate is disabled, you need to activate an SSL first. Once you have done so, copy the updated version of the pixel from the campaign and add the pixel on your landing page. Otherwise, the pixel would not work properly.

  10. Click the Done button to close the campaign's form. You have created the campaign in Voluum with the direct tracking method. Now, you need to configure the landing page in the funnel.

Paste a Direct Tracking Pixel to Your Landing Page

In this section, you need to modify the landing page by adding direct tracking pixel (code block) you have previously copied. The code snippet itself might look sophisticated, but it is provided in a way that is just enough to copy-paste. It is not recommended to modify the code block because the delivered version ensures compatibility with the Voluum platform.

  1. Go to the landing page that you host externally.

  2. Paste the direct tracking pixel at the bottom of the body component of your landing page's HTML:

IV. Submit a Direct Tracking URL to the Traffic Source

You need to set the URL that will be used to redirect your visitor from the traffic source to the landing page. Paste Direct tracking URL to the traffic source - this is how you will track visits without the initial redirect.
