Listicle Tracking

The listicle tracking feature allows you to create complex paths for your visitors. It extends the standard campaign funnel by adding an additional step with a lander. A visitor will see two landing pages before they reach an offer. First, they will see the prelander which has links to subsequent landers. These landers contain links to offers. Thanks to that, you can present more content to a visitor, which may persuade them to take your offer. Using this feature should be driven by your business needs.

How Does It Work?

When selecting the listicle tracking option in the campaign creation process, you will be required to select the prelander from the list. The number of CTAs set in this lander defines the number of "lander - offer" pairs that you will link to from the prelander.

Once you select the prelander, you will need to select an adequate number of landers. Each lander can be paired with one, unique offer only. This means that you cannot rotate offers or use multi-offer click URLs in this setup. Once you do so, you will be provided with three Voluum-generated links:

  • The standard campaign URL, that directs visitors from an ad to the prelander.

  • The intermediate click URL, that directs visitors from the prelander to one of the landers. This URL works in a similar way as multi-offer click URL, meaning that you create several intermediate click URLs, corresponding with the number of landers, by simply changing a number at the end of the URL. More will be explained later.

  • The standard click URL, that directs visitors from a lander to an offer.

Listicle Tracking Rules

The listicle tracking feature imposes several rules on the shape of your campaign funnel:

  • You can use a given offer or a lander only once in the whole funnel. This means that you cannot have the same lander linking to different offers or the same offer linked from different landers.

  • You can create up to 20 landers in a listicle.

  • The maximum number of landers that a visitor can visit during their journey is two.

Setting Up Listicle Tracking

In order to set up listicle tracking, first, you need to add a prelander and landers to Voluum. Then you have to create a campaign funnel with the listicle tracking option enabled, and lastly, you need to implement click URLs on your landing pages. In order to do so, perform the following steps:

1. Add a prelander:

  1. In Voluum, go to the Landers view.

  2. Click the New lander button.

  3. Select the Prelander option from the drop-down menu.

  4. (Optional) Select the Workspace that you want to assign this prelander to.

  5. Provide a name for the prelander in the Name text field.

  6. Provide a prelander URL in the Prelander URL text field.

  7. Select the number of CTAs. This number defines how many landers you will be able to use.

  8. Copy all intermediate click URLs to the clipboard by clicking the Copy button and paste them to any text editing tool.

  9. Click the Save button.


2. Add landers and offers:

Add the same number of offers and landers as the number of CTAs set in the prelander setup, as described in Add a Lander Element and Add an Offer to Voluum articles.

3. Create a listicle campaign

  1. Create a new campaign with the advanced form.

  2. In the GENERAL tab, provide basic campaign information and click the Next button.

  3. Select a path that you wish to set up listicles for and provide a name for this path.


    Voluum Tip: You can use listicles inside different paths, including rule-based ones, within one campaign.

  4. Select the Listicle radio button.

  5. Select the prelander that you have created from the Prelander drop-down menu.

  6. Select the lander 1 and the first offer from the drop-down menus.

  7. Select the lander 2 and the second offer from the drop-down menus.

  8. Select the lander 3 and the third offer from the drop-down menus.

  9. Click the Save button.

  10. In the TRACKING tab, copy the campaign URL and click URL to the clipboard by clicking the appropriate Copy buttons.


You have successfully created a campaign with listicle tracking enabled.

4. Set up your landing pages:

In order to complete the setup, you need to update your landing pages with the appropriate click URLs:

  • Prelander: Place all intermediate click URLs that you have copied from the prelander's setup into the <body> section of this landing page:

  • Landers: Place the same click URL that you have copied from campaign's setup into each of your landers' <body> section:

Congratulations, you have completed the listicle tracking setup process.

Viewing Listicle Tracking in Reports

Enabling the listicle tracking enriches your reporting data with the two additional metrics:

  • Intermediate click: shows the number of clicks on the first step lander

  • SCTR (Sublanders click-through rate): describes the ratio of clicks on the prelander (intermediate clicks) to clicks on the lander.

Moreover, you will also get the Sublanders report category that groups all landers. These metrics and a category are available in the specific report view for the listicle campaign. In order to get there, perform the following steps:

  1. In Voluum, create a specific report for the listicle campaign.

  2. Click the columns.png button to open column visibility options.

  3. Tick boxes next to the Intermediate click and SCTR metrics and click the Save button.

  4. Go to the Sublanders category. You will see the new metrics showing you data for all landers.
