DSP Campaign: Budget Tab

Voluum DSP DSP Campaign Funnel Spending

While creating a DSP campaign in Voluum, one of the key aspects is defining your budget. Below you can find an overview of each budget-related option:

Table of Contents
Max Bid (CPM)

This is a maximum amount of money you are ready to pay for 1000 impressions. Voluum operates on a second-price auction model meaning that you will always pay less than your maximum CPM. It might happen that sometimes even significantly less. You can modify your max bid on-the-fly, once your campaign is up and running.

In the Max bid (CPM) section, you will find a recommended bid range based on Voluum's calculations to potentially win an auction. Moreover, the Bid distribution presents how much traffic is potentially available for the recommended bid price.

The Bid distribution is divided into four segments: 0-25%, 25-50%, 50-75%, and 75-100%. When you hover over each segment, you will find out what will be the recommended price to potentially get impressions from a given segment of the available traffic for the selected ad exchange.

Take a look at the below picture. Three segments are marked there while hovering over the Bid distribution. The information says that potentially you might have access to 100% of the traffic, if you set the bid to $0.26. This gives you an insight what would be the best price for the campaign bid with the selected options in the Targeting tab. The recommendations will not show up until you define targets in the previous tab.

Keep in mind that the recommendations work best when you select one ad exchange per campaign. Moreover, the bid recommendations are also displayed in reports in the Campaigns view to make it as easy as possible to find the right bid for the campaign. The bid recommendations are displayed for active campaigns only.

Spend Strategy

Voluum offers you to select one of the following strategies:

  • ASAP: The budget will be spent as quickly as possible when all bid-winning conditions are met. It means that your budget can be consumed very quickly, even in the first moments of running the campaign. You should use this options only if you are sure about the expected results and want to spend as much as possible for an arising opportunity.

  • Smooth: The budget will be distributed evenly throughout the day. It takes into account only active hours you have selected in the Day partying option to evenly distribute money declared in the Total budget option (or your account budget if you have selected the Unlimited budget option).

Max Daily Spend per Site / App

You might limit your daily budget you want to spend for a single placement (app or site). It is recommended to set this option not to overspend on only one placement. If you do not know yet how your campaign is going to perform, you should set your maximum spend up to: 3 x Payout.

Max Daily Spend per Ad Exchange

The daily budget that you want to spend on offers promoted in one ad exchange. It enables you to smartly discover ad exchange inventory. It is highly recommended to add one ad exchange per campaign; if so, this spend equals a daily budget set up above. If you still need to have more than one ad exchange added to the campaign, this value allows you to divide money equally per ad exchange.

Auto-Optimization

The Auto-Optimization feature is based on a machine learning algorithm to make your campaign efficient and profitable. By defining an optimization goal, the algorithm first learns and then, adjusts your campaign settings to reach the specified optimization goal. The algorithm will evaluate the likely iCTR or click price of each bid request received and manage a bid strategy to maintain iCTR / CPV / CPC at the selected threshold.
