DSP Auto Pausing
DSP Auto pausing is a feature that allows you to automate your optimization process and save countless hours of manual work. With it, you simply set up the condition(s) and our system starts constantly checking and pausing underperforming elements based on the defined criteria in the condition(s).

How It Works
DSP Auto pausing is a feature that is defined by specific conditions. When your campaign is run, the system analyses several reporting dimensions and its metrics. It triggers a predefined action when the respective criteria are met.
You can apply up to 6 auto-pausing rules per campaign and use them in several campaigns.
I. Creating a DSP Auto pausing
In order to create a DSP Auto pausing that you would like to use in your campaign, perform the following steps:
In Voluum, go to the Auto rules tab. The Auto-rules view will appear.
Click the New auto-rule button. The New auto-rule form will appear.
Select the specific reporting dimension to which the rule will be applied by selecting an entry from the drop-down menu. Voluum DSP gives you the opportunity to apply the rule to:
Widget IDs
Ad Space ID
Sites
Creatives
Apps
OSs
OS versions
Browsers
Browser versions
Ad Exchanges
Select an action type that will be executed. In the beta version, the rule will automatically pause the underperforming elements.
Define a condition or conditions. You can define the conditions which need to be met in order to enable certain action defined by the auto-rule. You can use up to two conditions in one auto-rule. Note that in this case, the auto-rule will be applied accordingly only if BOTH conditions are met. To add a second condition, click the Add condition button.
In a given condition, select a metric that will be used as a criterion by selecting the correct entry from the first drop-down menu. You have the following metrics available:
CPV
eCPA
iCTR
CTR
Impressions numbers
Visits numbers
Clicks numbers
Conversions numbers
Cost
Revenue
Profit
ROI
eCPM
CV
CR
Use the second drop-down menu to define a logical operator. You have three options to select:
Is greater than
Is less than
Equals
Provide a metric value to use as a criterion in a condition.
Caution
Voluum DSP Note: When does an auto-rule come into effect? Voluum DSP has to make sure that the DSP auto rules feature goes along with Statistical Significance. The algorithm takes into consideration the amount of data gathered for each element. For example, DSP auto rule starts analyzing each site only if it has generated minimum 1000 impressions or minimum 5 visits.
Select a time range that will be used to analyze the recorded data by selecting an option from the Data time range drop-down menu. You have the following options available:
Last 1 hour
Last 3 hours
Last 12 hours
Last 24 hours
Last 3 days
Last 7 days
In the Frequency drop-down menu select how often this rule should be launched. You have the following options available:
5 minutes (default for 1 hour time range)
15 minutes (default for 3 hour time range)
1 hour (default for 24 hour time range)
3 hours (optional for 24 hour time range)
12 hours (default for 3 day time range)
24 hours (default for 7 day time range or optional for 3 day time range)
Note that the frequency setting depends on the selected time range. To analyze the reasonable amount of data, Voluum will automatically adjust the best frequency to the Data time range defined in the previous step. You can change the frequency for the 24 hour data time range from 1 hour to 3 hours.
Click the Save button.
Example:
Let's say we created a new auto-rule with the following options:
Apply rule to: Sites
Action: Pause
Conditions (2):
When impressions is greater than 100,000
AND
When conversions is less than 10
Time range: last 12 hours
Frequency: 1 hour
In this case, every hour the rule will analyze the data gathered during last 12 hours. It will evaluate each element in the Sites report, checking numbers of impressions and conversions for each Site. When BOTH conditions are met for specific Sites, the rule will be applied to those sites and pause them.
II. Applying a DSP auto rule to a Campaign
The rule you created can be applied to the new or edited campaign. In order to apply an auto-rule to a campaign, perform the following steps:
In Voluum, go to the Campaigns tab. The Campaigns view will appear.
Create a new campaign or edit an existing one.
In the New campaign or Edit campaign form go to the Targeting tab.
Scroll down to the Optimization section and select the auto-rule you created from the Auto rules drop-down menu.
The selected rule will appear in the field.
Save the campaign by clicking the Save button.
III. Managing DSP auto rules
Created DSP auto rules
All the created DSP auto rules can be found in the Auto-rules tab. In that tab you can:
View all created auto-rules.
Delete, edit or duplicate selected DSP auto rules by clicking appropriate buttons
Executed actions
All changes to campaign status executed by DSP auto rules can be found in the Bid adjustments report category. To navigate there, perform the following steps:
